How many porta potties does a construction site need?
A construction site with 20 or fewer workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Above 20 workers, OSHA requires 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers, and above 200, 1 per 50. A standard porta potty has both a seat and a urinal.
| Workers on site | OSHA minimum (29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1) | Our recommendation with weekly service |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 toilet | 1 standard unit |
| 11–20 | 1 toilet | 2 standard units |
| 21–40 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal (1 standard unit) | 3–4 units |
| 41–80 | 2 seats + 2 urinals | 5–8 units |
| 81–120 | 3 seats + 3 urinals | 9–12 units |
| 121–199 | 4–5 seats + urinals | 13–20 units, or half with twice-weekly service |
| 200+ | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 50 workers | 1 unit per 10–15 workers, serviced 2–3 times a week |
The OSHA number is the legal minimum. Our recommendation of 1 unit per 10 workers comes from how fast a standard unit fills with weekly service. A 60-gallon tank handles about 200 uses, and a 10-person crew uses it 250 to 300 times in a five-day week. Read the official 1926.51 text, or try the crew calculator.
How often is a job-site porta potty serviced?
A job-site porta potty in Hobbs is serviced once a week on a fixed weekday, included in the 28-day rate. Each visit pumps the tank, scrubs and sanitizes the seat, urinal and walls, refills sanitizer, restocks toilet paper and adds fresh deodorizer. Crews over 10 per unit can add a second weekly visit.
The driver texts when service is done. If the unit is blocked by materials or a locked gate, you get a text with a photo, and we come back the same day when the path is clear.
Need service only when the site is active? Tell us your work days. We schedule visits for days the gate is open instead of skipping service entirely, so the unit is never full on Monday morning.
Do construction crews need hand-washing stations?
Construction crews need washing facilities under OSHA 1926.51(f) when they apply paint, coatings, herbicides or other harmful materials, and on any site where workers eat. A two-sink hand-wash station next to the toilets covers up to about 40 workers between weekly services.
For small crews, a unit with a sink inside is cheaper than a separate station. For crews over 10, a separate hand-wash station keeps the line shorter.
Where should a porta potty go on a construction site?
A construction porta potty should sit on level ground within 15 feet of a firm path the service truck can reach, away from overhead power lines, crane swing areas and material drop zones. On open Hobbs lots, the unit is staked or strapped and the door faces away from the west wind.
- Keep 10 feet of width open for the service truck on service day.
- Do not place it where a dumpster swap or concrete pour will block it.
- On a new subdivision, put it by the curb, not on a lot that will be graded.
- If you move it with a skid steer, keep it upright and tell us the new spot.
How does billing work on a long construction job?
Construction rentals bill every 28 days with weekly service included. The first cycle includes one delivery and pickup charge; every cycle after that is the unit rate only. You can add, swap or move units mid-job, and billing stops the day you ask for pickup.
Builders with several houses going at once can put units on one account, get one invoice per cycle, and move units as each house finishes. See current monthly rates.

Questions people ask before booking
Is one porta potty enough for a crew of nine?
Yes. OSHA's minimum for 20 or fewer workers is one toilet, and one standard unit with weekly service handles a crew of up to 10.
I only need a porta potty for a 3-day roofing job. Do I pay for a month?
No. Jobs of 7 days or less use our short-rental rate, which covers up to 5 days on site with delivery and pickup. The monthly rate only applies to rentals longer than a week.
Can you deliver before my crew starts at 7 a.m.?
Yes. Ask for a first-stop delivery the day before or early morning. Most crews take delivery the afternoon before so the unit is ready at start time.
Can I put a lock on the unit?
Yes. We provide a combination lock at no charge. If you use your own lock, leave it open or give us the code on service days.
Who pays if the unit is damaged or vandalized on my site?
Normal wear is on us. Damage from vandalism, fire, tipping by equipment or moving it without telling us is billed at repair cost. Placing units inside a fenced or locked area prevents most of it.
Can you bring units to several houses in a subdivision?
Yes. Put them on one builder account. We service them on the same day each week and move units as houses are finished.
